    Benchmark VeRCoRs 2018

    Prestressed concrete containment vessel:

    Micromechanics, ageing and leakage

    EDF proposed in 2015 a first benchmark dedicated to early-age, mechanical and leaktightness behaviors.

    Considering the success of this first benchmark and the encouraging results submitted by the participants regarding the difficulty to predict the global air leakage of a high scale prestressed structure, EDF has decided to propose a second benchmark on VeRCoRs mock-up behavior. We provide some details in the following.

    For this second benchmark, three themes are proposed:

    Theme 1: Creep modelling - Micromechanics and/or Multiphysics approaches

    Theme 2: Mechanical behavior of the containment during pressurization test

    Theme 3: Air leakage

    (see parts 'C' and 'D' of the description document for details about expected results and provided data)

    The teams have the choice to contribute to one, two or three of the themes. Benchmark and workshop are free for the participants.

    This Benchmark ‘VeRCoRs 2018’ is organised in the framework of the WGIAGE (Working Group on Integrity and Ageing of Components and Structures) from OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.

    Note that one other benchmark is planned in 2021, to predict the behavior under severe accident conditions.

    Key dates :

    • The benchmark will start the 6th of February 2017; all data will be available for this date.
    • Additional experimental data will be provided after the ‘VD1’ pressure test of the mockup scheduled in March 2017.
    • The participant’s results are expected for the 30th of April 2018. After this date, the Benchmark will be closed. Additional experimental results will be given to each team that did provide its results in due time. These results will be sent after the ‘VD2’ air test (scheduled in April 2018) to allow participants to improve (if so desired) the results before the workshop session.
    • The workshop, dedicated to the presentation of the experiments, the presentations of the team’s results and associated discussions in plenary session will held in Paris Saclay from 27th to 29th of August 2018.

    Note that 2 previous pressurization tests have been performed on the mock-up : ‘Pre-Op’ test in November 2015, and ‘VC1’ test in January 2016. In 2017, this pressurization test will be done twice (first one will be designated ‘VD1’ and the second one ‘VD1bis’).
